Shutt Memorial Hydrobowlresults for 2001

The sprint and slalom times were fairly uneventful as compared to previous ones; the standing start sprints were even faster than the flying starts! Could it have been the sweltering weather during the flying starts?

A new record in the Criteriun has been established: Old mark=15:27, Mew mark=14:58, although it is unofficial. This is the first time a "critter" has broken 15 in a hydrobowl!

Competitors were Bob Buerger, Jake Free and Bill Murphy. Free Took the sprints and Crit, Murphy took the Slalom and Captain's Surprise, Buerger took the Static Thrust.

Of note was the captain's Surprise. It was a contest for who had the most efficient('fective) drive system. Four criteria were graded including number of gliding pedal spins, the calculated overall breaking tension, drag torque at the pedals, and a very important drag torque at the pedals divided by [in the water]operating torque. In this last category, Murphy's "drive system drag coefficient" was a whooping 1%!!. He took three of the categories of the captain's surprise, Free took one.

These are the point totals so far for 2001:

SEASONAL POINT TOTALS:
Jake Free 40 points
Bill Murphy 37 points
Bob Buerger 35 points
